UNC 220cmx165cm Beniouarain Berber carpet in natural wool hand-knotted by Moroccan Berber women.
This unique carpet bears the symbol of the Berber community of North Africa .
ⵣ, called yaz, is a letter of the Amazigh alphabet, the tifinagh. It represents a voiced alveolar fricative consonant /z/. Yaz is also the symbol of the Berber language and culture in North Africa, representing the free man in Berber culture. It also represents heaven and earth, and the relationship.
For centuries, Berber craftsmanship has been shaped by ancestral know-how and strong traditions which, from the countries of the greater Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt) and although mint mark in part: forms, colours, senses, and specific labels, are always inspired by history, the imprint of civilisations and the unique and exclusive Berber culture.
