Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
This is a Heriz rug: these rugs are made of high-quality wool, which makes them durable and very suitable for public spaces and dining rooms where they are more frequently subject to wear. These oriental carpets are hand-knotted in the north-east of Iran and often feature large geometric medallions at the centre. **
The Heriz carpet is regarded as one of the most beautiful simple carpets in the whole of Iran. ** Heriz is a city located in north-eastern Iran, near the city of Tabriz, and its proximity to this important carpet production centre has influenced local weavers, particularly since the early 19th century, giving rise to this characteristic type of rug. They are usually rugs of great resistance and longevity, made with a fairly large knot, and are, by far, among the most hard-wearing Persian carpets. The designs originate from the traditional medallion patterns of the neighbouring city of Tabriz, but are very stylised and reinterpreted using a style and a colour theme that are completely different from those of Tabriz carpets. The medallions of Heriz carpets have stylised star shapes that can extend almost to the edge of the carpet. The field is decorated with stems that bend at right angles to link serrated leaves and rosettes.
