Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
The city of Saruq is located in the central region of Iran, approximately 40 km north of Sultanabad. Carpet production in this region increased significantly towards the end of the 19th century, thanks to the substantial export demand, originating at that time from the booming activity of the Ziegler company, whose headquarters were in nearby Sultanabad. The sturdiness of the structure, the elegance of the design and the colour harmony, selected among the most tenuous and softest tones, made Saruqs one of the most exported types of carpet to the West, and especially to the United States, during the 20th century. They are made using an asymmetrical-type knot that can reach rather high levels of density.
