Marco van Basten signed Netherlands European Championship '88 shirt
The European Championships '88 shirt is signed on the back of the jersey with a silver marker.
Van Basten, a three-time European Football player of the year and two-time world football player of the year, is recognized worldwide as one of the best football players of all time. The former attacker was prized for his ball control, technique, tactical class and way of rounding. During his active career he mostly made name for himself while playing for Ajax and AC Milan. In Amsterdam Service, the striker won three Dutch titles and the Cup II. In 1987, he retired from the Dutch public and continued his career in Italy at AC Milan. There he played a role in obtaining some great prizes, including twice the Europe Cup I, two World Cups and two times the UEFA Super Cup.
In 1988 Van Basten became European Champion with the Dutch National Football team in West-Germany. The goal that Van Basten scored in the final against the Soviet Union is still seen by football fans as one of the most memorable goals ever.
On August 17 1995, Van Basten retired from professional football for a serious ankle injury at the age of 30. At that time, he had not been playing for nearly two and a half years, since his last game against Olympique Marseille in the final round of the Champions League.
