Bertus Jonkers was without a doubt one of the most intriguing artists of the past century in his hometown Utrecht . He paints like Van Gogh, he admires the master's drive and studies his paintings and drawings. He regularly resides in France in the 1960s with fellow student and friend Nico Rypkema. His paintings of landscapes and still lifes are successful.
Jonkers' work is collected by the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Centraal Museum Utrecht and private collectors worldwide.
In 2016, several of Jonkers' etchings were exhibited at The Rembrandt House during the exhibition "under the spell of Hercules Segers - Rembrandt and the moderns" a tribute to Hercules Segers (1589/90-1633/40) in cooperation with the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Hercules Segers Foundation.
