We visited the well-known site Font Maure, in the municipality of Velleches regularly in the 1980s.
See the last picture: overview map of the region.
The owner, Paul Durand, allowed us to search on the fields.
In the early 1990s, the Archaeological Institute from Tours sent a letter that nobody was allowed anymore to search at the site: it became a protected archaeological site.
Today it is purposely covered with grass!!
Since 45 years I have been practicing archaeology, specializing in the Stone Age.
I guarantee the authenticity of the stone objects - the site - the permission to search back then (so not illegal!!).
This place was discovered in the 1930s by Dr. Pradel. He wrote several publications about this site and named the flint: jasper-opal, because of the wide variety of colours.
It is a Palaeolithic site from the Mousterian = Neanderthal period.
The Mousterian is from 100,000-30,000 and can be divided into a number of periods, such as MTA - M typique - M denticulee - M final a lame.
The periods have a wide variety of tools.
