First edition of this book about the epic story of the the twelve great riders and swordsmen of the French army, illustrated with compositions by Maurice Toussaint (1882-1974). The artist had acquired a solid reputation for his mastery of military subjects and in particular of uniformology. He notably illustrated many books on the French armies under the Old Regime, and on the armies of the First and Second Empire.
A fairly well-preserved copy: faded spine missing the title label. Fresh inside, without foxing.
