Betty was based on Bette Davis, a famous actress who was known for her striking, big eyes. Helen Kane is also known as a source of inspiration.
The first Betty Boop film Dizzy Dishes appeared on August 8, 1930. Originally Betty was hardly an attractive figure, but Max Fleischers brother Dave changed her into a female sex symbol.
