Karel V reigned from 1506 to 1555. The coins of Karel V in the period 1548-1556 have a year above the crown of the king. For earlier years there is no year on the coin itself.

The extensive coat of arms of Karel V is not minted on the copper change. Despite transferring power to his son Philips II on October 25 1555, shorts have been minted with his name and image and the year 1556 on it, just like in Antwerp.

The copper short had been introduced by ordinance of April 7 1543.
