Biblia cum tabula noviter edita - 1494
Bibles, Incunabula & early printing, Religion - Quantity: 1

Venezia, per Simone Bevilacqua, 1494.
The colophon reads: Venetijs : Su[m]ma iucubratione: per Symonem Beuilaqua Papiensem., Anno nonagesimo quarto supra Milesimum quateros centesimu: die vero vicesima secunda nouembris.

In 4to with nineteenth-century half leather binding with label, golden friezes and titles on the spine (small tear), cc. 439 (of 456), a woodcut typographic brand on the colophon (located on c. cc4v) depicting a dry tree on which a bird of prey is perched, two shields, each depicting a crown, hang from the plant. On the cartouche: Simon Bivilaqua. Text printed on two columns, indexes on three columns. Hundreds of traditionally "illuminated" drop caps, i.e. dyed red - sometimes with beautiful smudges. Missing sheet a1 and the 16 preceding sheets, containing an index (tabula) of the Bible, which is attached to the volume in the form of a small colour booklet with a metal staple. Despite this lack, the Biblical text is complete, and also features, after the colophon (cc. dd1 sgg.), a hermeneutic and mnemonic instrument, i.e. the index of incipit of verses.

Overall, it is a book of extraordinary beauty.
