Breviary leaf, handwritten on paper-thin parchment. Used by priests in reading Mass. Looks like new after almost 600 years.
The red letters on the front refer to the Sabbath and especially the part of the lauds, the morning prayer.
Three larger gilt-heightened initials, against a blue or brown background. There is fine decoration within the initials. In addition, there are 5 small decorated initials.
In red text instructions for the mass, directions for reading the text, including antiphonies (a).
With 29 written lines in two columns, in a black manuscript.
Written and illuminated in Tours, France, around 1485.
High-quality leaf. Both the painting and the writing are in good condition.
Leaf size: 17.7 × 12.5 cm and type page with two columns: 8 × 11.3 cm.
Comes in an passe-partout to keep the leaf in good condition.
