Lovely condition. This is a scarce book, often very browned.

Buyers will know that Aldrovandi's works appears in illustrated folios during the mid 1600s. The 'Musaeum metallicum' in 1648: this was an illustrated catalogue of the 'metals' of Aldrovandi's museum, i.e. fossils, shells, minerals and crystals, ethnographic stone objects and utensils, lamps, antique vases and marble busts, terra sigillata, kidney stones, or any other object with the properties of 'stoniness'.Aldrovandi's museum was one of the first natural history museums, and it has survived intact to this day in Bologna.

The little book here offered is a very sdcarce first edition offering a 'synopsis' of that collection edited the German chemist and physician David Kellner. It is in effect a paraphrased, abridged edition of the 1648 work.

The work is divided into two books. The first (page 1-67) is "De Metallis in genere," which gives an overview of metals, their origins, reason for existance, etc. The second book (pages 68-258), titled "De Metallis in specie," gives detailed descriptions of various metals, including notes on the both the physical and mystical properties.
