Sidney George Brown, the founder of S.G. Brown Ltd. was a prolific inventor of electromechanical devices, including the "Microphone Amplifier" (1921), which could micro-phonically amplify the sound of a crystal receiver without the use of tubes. He started his company in Watford (north of London) in 1910. He later also had a company in North Acton, London W3. S.G. Brown Ltd. later became part of Racal, which became part of Thales-Racal Acoustics.
