The exhibition of artworks by the 29-year-old artist Corneille at art dealer Martinet & Michels on Oudezijds Voorburgwal 100 lasted no longer than three weeks. The Amsterdam art dealer published its first booklet on the occasion of this exhibition, with beautiful typography. Hugo Claus had written a beautiful, poetic essay about Corneille's oeuvre. The first publication of Martinet & Michels included five colour linocuts by Corneille. The book ends with a poem by Claus.
Claus and Corneille were good friends. Earlier in 1951, in Paris, they had made the book Paal en Perk.
