-Medal of the cross of war 1939-1945
It was at the initiative of Édouard Daladier, President of the Council and Minister of War, that this decoration was instituted by a decree-law on September 26th, 1939.
This medal takes the model of the 1914-1918 War Cross with the front depicting the head of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, the inscription "République Française" and the back, which at that time bore only the date of "1939".

The Vichy Regime decided by the Decree of March 23, 1941, to withdraw the cross of war of 1939 and to establish a new one.
