Description
Samuel Smiles Writer - Autograph; Letter for Thanks Publisher Barbèra for Participation at Circolo Filologico from Florence - 1889
Literature, Manuscripts - Quantity: 1 - Signed, Signed by author - Autograph letter signed (ALS)

Entirely handwritten letter by Samuel Smiles, Scottish writer and journalist.

Smiles was in fact the first author of self-help books, didactical writings in which he asserted that people's qualities should be used to overcome the obstacles of life. These books were also successful in Italy.

In the note, written from the Hotel de la Ville, Smiles thanks his publisher Piero Barbèra for introducing him to the Circolo Filologico and to two Florentine ladies. He also tells him that he will leave on Friday.

The note is written on high-weight paper. Two holes were drilled at the top for storage reasons, one of which ripped off while not compromising the readability.

Samuel Smiles (Haddington, 23 December 1812 - Kensington, 16 April 1904) was a Scottish writer, journalist and politician.

From Florence, 23 April 1889.
