2 OZ Lunar 2 dog 2018:
2018 Year of the Dog Silver Coins
These beautifully minted 2 ounce silver coins are part of the famous Lunar II collection of the prestigious Perth Mint. Based on the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiacal calendar, the Lunar II series celebrates the mythology, history and tradition of ancient China. Following the outstanding success of the Gold and Silver Lunar I coin series, the Mint's Lunar II silver series started with the Year of the Mouse in 2008 and the Year of the Pig silver coins marked the end of the series in 2019.
The artist and designer Ing Jong has created a unique image of the dog on the silver coin of the Year 2018. An adult German Shepherd is sitting at rest with its puppy on the foreground. On the left, a sheaf of peonies symbolises the spring, feminine beauty and reproduction. The reverse side of the 2 oz Silver Dog Year coin also features the Chinese character for the number 8, which is considered to be a lucky number and the trademark of Perth Mint. The obverse shows the fourth official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II made by Sir Ian Rank-Broadley.
