The Biondi Santi family, owner for generations of the estate Tenuta Greppo, is a real institution of the viticulture of Montalcino: the forefather Ferruccio Biondi Santi was the first to give value to the pure winemaking of Sangiovese, successfully overcoming the difficult period between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century with the viral diffusion of oidium, peronospora and phylloxera and the outbreak of the First World War, so much to be described in 1932 by an inter ministerial commission in charge of the study of the territory of Montalcino, as the actual inventor of Brunello. His son Tancredi continued the work of enhancing full-bodied red wines based on Sangiovese, he was called for wine consultancy by producers all over Italy, who were fascinated by the sturdiness of Brunello Biondi Santi.

Today the tradition of this key wine for the image of Montalcino continues according to the qualitative path historically undertaken, with Franco Biondi Santi who is engaged in the enhancement of the strict production techniques aimed at enhancing the distinctive typology of the various variations of Sangiovese. In the desire to disclose the expressive power of the younger vineyards, in addition to the historic land that gives life to the most famous Brunello, Biondi Santi created the Red of Montalcino from the estate Tenuta Greppo.

Matured for 12 months in the traditional oak barrels of Slavonia, the Rosso of Montalcino Biondi Santi is a promising ‘relative’ of Brunello, young and pulpy, of frank drinkability in the immediate, although capable to develop over time in an aromatic evolution worthy of note.
