Opals from Brazil normally contain only 5 % to 6 % of water compared to opals sourced at other sites all over the world that contain 10 % to 12 % of water. This means that the Brazilian opal has a lower risk of cracking due to exposure to heat or sunlight. It has also been found that the Brazilian opal is a little harder compared to other opals.
