Hugo Claus wrote at the behest of Gert Jan Hemmink the whole poem "For Corneille" on the occasion of the celebration of the seventieth anniversary of Corneille on July 4, 1992, following many collaborations with the painter (Paal en Perk, April in Paris, Hymen).
Voor Corneille was produced in the spring of 1992 for Uitgeverij AMO in Amstelveen, from the conference and printed by Hans van Eijk, In de Bonnefant in Banholt. The print run of twenty-five copies is distributed as follows: Number I-X on Arches vellum, bound by Binderij Phoenix, Amsterdam; number 1-15 on Zerkall etching paper, paperback. The first five copies are printed by name. All copies are numbered on the press and signed by the author on the colophon page.
Large format hardcover, 2-page poem, 16 pages in total, 32 x 23 cm. In very good condition.
