Condition: Stains / damage to binding. Interior with discolouration / spots and the portrait of Caesar is loose.

Around 1623 Hooft started translating Tacitus, which he finished in 1635. Tacitus was Hooft's favourite author, according to biographer Gerard Brandt, not only because of his pithy style, which was also characteristic of Hooft's own style, but also because of the similarity in their political views.
