First edition. The author’s handwritten signature on volume I attests to its authenticity.

François Antommarchi (1780-1838), born in Corsica, taught anatomy in Florence, and was attached in 1820 to the service of Napoleon, a prisoner on St. Helena. He helped him in his final moments, refusing to sign the autopsy report prepared by the English surgeons, and published his memoirs after his return to Europe. This work also includes Napoleon’s will and a very detailed sketch of the flora of St. Helena. ‎
