A spectacular work: La Fleur de la vie des Saints (Flos sanctorum o la vida de los santos) was published in 1599 by the Spanish Jesuit Pedro de Ribadeneira.
The translation by René Gautier was first printed in 1609 and reprinted many times with additions. It was a success, particularly in France.
A lovely edition, with several portraits in intaglio.
R.P Père Ribadeneira - Les Nouvelles Fleurs Des Vies Des Saints Et Fêtes De L'Année - 1669
Binding in very good condition, new full leather binding, covers and spine in good condition, sound binding.
Inside in average condition, the first 2/3 pages and the title page are missing, part of the first page is missing but thereafter the pages are worn but perfectly legible, some soiling and water stains.
The first 55 pages tell the story of the life of Jesus, his father Joseph and his mother Saint Mary. Then comes the annual calendar with, on each date, the life of the Saint of the Day, very well and precisely described.
A little over 570 pages, the last twenty or so are all damaged and in part missing, lovely headbands, ornamental initials, culs-de-lampe, delightful out of text engravings.
