First edition of the French translation of The Congo and the founding of its free State, in which Stanley tells of this preliminary expeditions in the European conquest of the Congo Basin.
It was indeed a major role played by the English explorer Henry Stanley (1841-1904), already at the height of his fame, in the discovery of Congo and especially in the curious political process that led to entrusting this immense territory to Leopold II of Belgium in the form of personal possession.
