After Senna's third world title in 1991, the qualities of McLaren's car were overtaken by those of other teams, notably Williams. Senna signed with this team in 1994.

Senna crashed on Sunday 1 May 1994 during the 1994 San Marino F1 Grand Prix at the Imola circuit. In his native Brazil, three days of national mourning were declared and his funeral was broadcast live around the world.

During a trial against members of the Williams team, all aspects of the accident were extensively reviewed. At first glance it was thought that the crash was caused by a broken part of the steering rod, but this was only a result of the crash. The asphalt was very uneven in the bend where Senna went off (Tamburello), many drivers were worried about this. In addition, the outside of the bend had a wall which was dangerously close to the track. Because there was a river behind the bend, the distance between the wall and the circuit could not be increased. When Senna steered through Tamburello, he drove over the unevenness whilst all the other drivers drove past it. As a result, the bottom plate of the car hit the tarmac causing him to loose all grip. The Williams drove straight ahead and drilled into the wall. [1]

The laps before Senna's crash took place behind the safety car (due to an earlier accident in the race), this reduced the temperature of the tyres, the tyre pressure of Senna's car was therefore probably too low. This caused a smaller ground clearance and is perhaps the main cause of the accident.

Artist’s statement:

The driving force behind my artwork is an enduring interest in cars, sports and luxury goods. During my development as an artist, I created my own style that has developed over the years. Recent works are somewhat freer, although attention to detail is still important to me. Some works fall more under street art, others may fall under pop art. Paint with mixed techniques from oil paint to acrylic. Always on linen canvas. The original canvases are for sale on time and are only made in a very exclusive and low edition of art prints. All reproductions are limited, personally signed and numbered. Besides working in Formula 1, I also like to capture classic race cars on canvas. The past year I started painting exclusive watches on request. The Rolex brand has often been the subject. I also make commission art on request.
