Frédéric Masson - Autograph; Personal Postcard Assumes Fake Guizot Signature for Sale - 1878

Description
Frédéric Masson - Autograph; Personal Postcard Assumes Fake Guizot Signature for Sale - 1878
Literature, Manuscripts - Quantity: 1 - Signed by author - Autograph letter signed (ALS)

Entirely handwritten card of Frédéric Masson, French historian and diplomat.

In the note, he thanks the addressee for the work done, although it is now useless. He seems to be looking for traces of letters and documents from a sale made by M. Guizot, and speculates that the signature was forged, but if they can trace back to the first holders and then to the donors, everything will be clear.

The note shows his office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Signature date: 19/03/1878.

Frédéric Masson (Paris, 8 March 1847 - 19 February 1923) was a French historian. He devoted himself to the history of diplomacy and published several volumes about this subject between 1877 and 1884. Later he published some more or less curious memoirs illustrating the history of the Revolution and the Empire.
