Album of 50 original, lithographed caricatures enhanced with
gouache by Georges Bastia. Copy No. 90 of a print limited to 100 numbered copies. There are variations of this album with different plates and prints, which explains the handwritten corrections to the proof . The plates in this copy correspond to the table, verified complete.

The preface is by Marcel Achard. It presents that author as “one of the
champions of caricature,” or even “the Buffon of caricature.” Georges Bastia
(1904-1980) caricaturist then cabaret artist illustrator, was Sociétaire des Humoristes, and worked
among other things for Rire and Auto (winner of an award from this competition in 1920), La
Rampe, Fantasio, Opéra.

Starting in 1936, he launched an issue transforming
artists into animals that can be found in this Zoo des Vedettes album. Among the
stars are Sacha Guitry, Brigitte Bardot, Jean Gabin, Gérard Philippe, Michèle Morgan, Georges Brassens,
Fernandel, Bourvil, Simone Signoret, Juliette Greco, Yves Montand, Jean Marais etc. (Bénézit)
