The badger is active at night and then noisily roots for food in its territory of pastures and deciduous forests. They are real omnivores who see very badly but can smell and hear very well. During the day they sleep together in their large, sometimes centuries-old family castle that consists of countless pipes and rooms. In the Netherlands, badgers live to an average age of 5 years because about a fifth of the population dies in traffic every year, they live to be 14 years old max. In the past, the badger was intensively hunted for its fur. The hairs were popular in paint and shaving brushes.
