Alessandro Tassoni (1565–1635) was an Italian writer and poet. The final edition of his Pensieri diversi dates back to 1620.
The first four books deal with science, the following four with customs and morals; the third with poetic, historical and various things, while the tenth contains a comparison of ancient and modern devices.
This work is remarkable in the history of Italian thought: if in some questions, in fact, Tassoni opposes the new theories of Copernicus and Galileo, in others he foretells the modern spirit by questioning Aristotle and the principle of authority, affirming the right to freedom of thought and judgment.
