Paris ca. 1870 - Vase (2) - Porcelain

Description
Paris ca. 1870 - Vase (2) - Porcelain
France - 19th century

On square feet, the body with elephant head shaped handles and decorated with a 'chinoiserie' design with two men and two women, flanked by gilded bamboo, flowers, butterflies and birds, between bands of gilded ornaments on a turquoise background. Mounted with brass.

Paris, ca. 1870, marked in blue on the bottom of the body with monogrammed painter's palette. The monogram 'S' most likely stands for E. Sieffert (vases with similar decoration by E. Sieffert were sold at Christies in 2013).
Eugène-Louis Sieffert was a Parisian porcelain painter. He is recorded at the Sèvres factory from 1881-87 and in England from 1887-94 before returning to Sèvres 1894-98.

Some wear on the gilded parts.
