A loose leaf collection of 171 black and white copper engravings of various indigenous and foreign bird species in a loose portfolio. The paper is slightly browned and stained according to age. The text is absent.

A total of fourteen books published in this series, with sixteen parts concerning birds spread over eight volumes and with a total of 505 images. George Shaw (1751-1813) was the curator of the section of natural history of the British Museum until his passing. His work was continued thereafter by James F. Stephens.
