Rare. First edition of the first part (6 vol 1829-30) and the first three volumes (of 6 of the second part 1838). The last was published in 1846, the work is very rare complete.
Good copies in luxurious period bindings, in full glazed calfskin, adorned with a rich romantic decor in gold and black tooling, labels and diamonds on the spine and smoked boards.
diplomatic history was begun by Bignon at the express request of Napoleon himself
in his will. After a diplomatic career during the Napoleonic period, and
having intimately experienced the events in Prussia and Poland, Baron Louis Bignon (1771-1841)
undertook this monumental work, giving an overview of the diplomacy, administration,
finance, war, navy, etc. of the Napoleonic period from 18 Brumaire (November 1799) to the second restoration. Our copy goes up to the Russian campaign (volume 9).

Condition: Matching set, well-made binding that remain decorative despite the defects on the smoked parts (the black is faded on the boards and cracked on the spine). The leather is barely faded on the spine, joints, and corners in very good condition as a whole. Fresh and clean inside, carefully printed on laid paper, some light scattered foxing, rare, and it doesn’t affect reading the text.
