Please note: Giovanni de Martino (1870-1935) studied in Naples at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. At a very young age, he moved to Paris where he executed small sculptural groups, frequently exhibiting at the ‘Salon de Paris’, where he won the Louvre Museum prize for the bronze work ‘Le Pêcheur de criquets’ (The Fisherman of Locusts, Naples, private collection).
After he went back to Naples, he returned to a socialist realism and devoted himself to the production of sculptures depicting typical Neapolitan types, in particular street urchins, ‘scugnizzi’, young boys, and young fishermen.
