After the able, accurate, and comprehensive work of Chief Justice Marshall, it would be presumptuous to attempt a historical biography of Washington.

George Washington (Westmoreland County (Virginia), 22 February 1732 – Mount Vernon (Virginia), 14 December 1799) was a general, supreme commander of the colonies in the American War of Independence, slaveholder and the first president of the United States from 1789 through 1797.
