Queen’s Beasts in silver:
The Queen's Beasts series is inspired by the 10 heraldic statues represented at the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953 at Westminster Abbey. The statues were the work of British sculptor James Woodford and guarded the western annex to Westminster Abbey: the coronation church of the British monarchy. Today, the painted plaster characters (nearly two metres high) are on display at the Canadian History Museum in Ottawa. Since their creation in 1953, the Beasts have been reproduced in various ways, from porcelain figurines to dishes and candle holders to teaspoons and stamps. Then, in 2016, the Royal Mint produced a series of coins representing heraldic beasts.
