Sobek is one of the best-known Egyptian gods associated with the crocodile. Beneficial in character, creator of the Nile, he would have emerged from his sweat; Sobek was the god of fertility, vegetation and life. His cult goes back to the first Egyptian dynasties. He was represented as a crocodile or a man with a crocodile's head, with an athef crown.
