Near Eastern Steatite cylinder seal, 2,09 cm high

Description
Near Eastern Steatite cylinder seal, 2,09 cm high
Jemdet Nasr period, 3100-2900 B.C.

This steatite cylinder seal shows a kind of figure made in a schematic way by circular incisions. The cylindrical seals made during the period of Jemdet Nasr are different from those of the predecessor stage. They are smaller seals made of hard stone and rock crystal. In the first stage, scenes of primary activities such as the harvest, religious life or even animal fights are depicted, but towards the end of the period, the drawings become more schematic and abstract, which makes them difficult to interpret.
