Beautiful and very rare silk flag of a pilot of the Imperial Japanese Air Force, World War II period. The peculiarity of this flag is that it is made silk and once folded it the size of a pack of cigarettes, and the edges feature a sewn horsehair padding that allows the flag to float. It was used by Japanese pilots shot down at sea to signal aircraft above them that they belonged to the Imperial Japanese Air Force, thus to avoid being shot and killed in the water.
Original and sought-after relic, approximate size 100 x 80 cm.
