No less than 2256 units of the East German V60 were built between 1962 and 1982 by Lokomotivbau Electrotechnischen Werke (LEW) Hans Beimler in Hennigsdorf, amongst others.
In 1999, several V60Ds from these firms were deployed as the SL 1001 and 1002 with the Dutch freight carrier Short Lines (the company ACTS also had some ex-Czech V60Ds). After the dissolution of Short Lines in 2004, their locomotives were taken over by VolkerRail and were renamed Knabbel and Babbel (running numbers 106-1 and 106-2).
