Electric locomotive Series BR 101.
The Series BR 101, was designed by ADtranz, and has a weight of 83 tonnes and can achieve a maximum speed of 220 km/h. It is one of the latest locomotives of the Deutsche Bahn AG and has been deployed for both passenger and freight transport. These locomotives only have environmentally friendly cooling liquids and paint types. The energy generated by braking is fed back into the power-grid.

Development and deployment.
In July 1995, the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) commissioned the design and construction of a new locomotive for Intercity traffic. These locomotives were destined to replace the Series BR 103, BR 112 and BR 120. It led to the eventual order for 145 locomotives of the Series BR 101, that were able to achieve a top speed of 220 km/h. The Series BR 101 locomotives were built by the manufacturer ADtranz. The first locomotive was delivered, and deployed in July 1996.

Advertising locomotive.
From May 1998 onwards, the BR 101 is also used as an advertising locomotive to generate additional revenue. The advertisement on the locomotives was applied to the locomotives by means of printed advertising foil. Until mid 2006, some 200 locomotives of the Series BR 101 with advertising were deployed.
