Large folio to commemorate “The great celebration of His Serene Highness, Willem den Vyfden, Prince of Orange and Nassau, etc., etc., elected Margrave van Vere, on 28 May 1766, at the request of the noble government".
Very large folded plates: 62.2 x 43.3 cm, illustrating triumphal arches and other spectacular temporary structures, erected on the occasion of the festivities.
Early editions of these two great books on Dutch festivities, of which Plegtige Inhuldiging describes the celebrations held in Veere on 1 June 1751 in honour of the little prince Willem Hendrik Friso of Orange-Nassau (1748-1806), who was three years old at the time , and who would reign as William V from 1766 until the revolution of 1795. Beautiful plates that illustrate the triumphal arches and other spectacular temporary structures created for the occasion. De statige inhuldiginge commemorates the entry of William V at Veere on 28 June 1766. Branches engraved by Gerard Sibelius on drawings by Pieter Beuckels.
William V (8 March 1748 – 9 April 1806) was one of the Princes of Orange and the last statolder of the Dutch Republic. He went into exile in London in 1795. He was also governor of the Principality of Orange-Nassau until his death in 1806. He was succeeded by his son William.
