Rare collection of 116 issues of the first semester of the year 1850 of the famous
satirical journal, Le Charivari, gathered into a folio volume (37 x 27 cm) bound in navy blue half leather
1880s, smooth spine adorned with gilded tooling.
Each issue is illustrated with a lithographed caricature on the 3rd page, by the best
artists of the time including 36 lithographs by Honoré Daumier and many by Cham, Gavarni,
Opens with No. 1 (1/01/1850), almost complete collection up to number 181 (30/06/1850).
Missing 65 issues. The volume is comprised of 116 issues.
Missing issues 4,6,9,24,32,39-40, ,48, 51-52,56, 57a-,60-61, 64, 73-98, 99, 101-104, 106-107, 113-118, 123,140, 148, 150a, 151, 162-165, 171,173, 176.
Good condition as a whole, solid and clean volume, leather in good condition despite several abrasions.
The inside is in good overall condition. Many issues have small tears in the margins or along the central fold, 2 issues have text missing and/or images (no. 57 and 150), signs of
handling, light foxing and dampstains. Some issues have more pronounced dampstains or foxing.
