Biblia Sacra Editionis Jussu Sixti V. Pontif. Max. Recognita, Locupletibus SS. Patrum Et Aliorum Probatorum S. Scripturae Interpretum Commentariis Illustrata (...) a Theologis Monasterii D. Ettonis Prope S. Landelinum (...) Sub Directione P. Germani Cartier. In quatuor tomos distincta. Constantiae, Sumptibus Jacobi Friderici Bez & Sociorum, 1770. On the half-title page: “R. P. Germani Cartier : Biblia Sacra Latino – Germanica cum commentario Latino”. Third edition of the so-called Ettenheimmünster Bible, so remembered because it was curated by the Benedictines of Ettenheimmünster Abbey under the direction of Germanus Cartier and first published in Cologne in 1751. Complete work in four volumes. Pp. (30), 758; 562; 588; 571, (3), 48, (52); large folio (23.5 x 37.5 cm). Firm, compact copies. Coeval full leather bindings; spines with six raised bands and rich gold friezes: some abrasions and a few defects. Scattered light redness; a couple of sheets with light repairs. The plates, numbered and on full page, are 65: 49 and 62 are missing. They show biblical scenes, characters, landscapes within a Baroque frame. Folded map accompanying the "Dissertatio critica de situ Paradisi Terrestris" in the Tigris and Euphrates Delta. Despite its flaws, a very important collection and an uncommon edition of the Bible. Text on two columns: Latin - German.
