The release of the feature film Jurassic Park was revolutionary in its use of life-size animatronic dinosaurs. While the film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar off the coast of Central America, the film was not shot near Costa Rica. Most of the blockbuster was shot in California and Hawaii.
Jurassic Park premiered at the Uptown Theatre in Washington D. C. on 9 June 1993, before its wider release. The film was released in the US on 11 June and will be shown worldwide in the coming weeks and months. With total box office sales of $914 million worldwide after its release, the film was the biggest grosser of 1993 and, at the time, the most profitable film in history.
On the obverse of the Niue Jurassic Park 2020 silver coins is a representation of Queen Elizabeth II. This bust of the Queen in straight profile was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. Used on British coins from 1998 to 2015 and Australian coins from 1999 to 2018, this effigy of the Queen with the daughters of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara continues to be used on the coins of Commonwealth countries such as Tuvalu and Niue.
The back of the 2020 Jurassic Park 1oz silver coins features the iconic logo from the Jurassic Park novel and feature film. The image shows a T-Rex skeleton overlaid in left profile with the creatures massive jaws open to expose its sharp teeth. Its short arms also reach into the field of design.
