¶ This book shows chronologically the expansion of the Waffen-SS from elite to mass army What is clear is that Hitler came to trust his political soldiers more and more. There was a deep distrust that went down to Hitler's soul of the Prussian noble elite in the 'Wehrmacht'. After the Von Stauffenberg attack in the summer of 1944 he relied more than ever on the Waffen-SS for important battles. This was a continuation of the politics that had already introduced around the time of the Kursk battle in 1943. After Stalingrad, when the army held the sway, Waffen-SS became central. At Kursk, Ternopil, Choszczno, Normandy, the Ardennes, Budapest, Vienna, Arnswalde and Berlin, the Waffen-SS played an important role. But even they could not change the course of the war. Hitler became frustrated and threatened disciplinary measures against the Waffen-SS. 'They cannot give more than their lives', is what the Reichsführer-SS said dryly.
