Charcoal on paper, numbered X in the bottom left corner, signed and annotated ‘eigen werk’ and ‘Een heel gelukkig nieuw jaar, van Wilhelmina 1933’
An original framed study drawing by queen Wilhelmina of trees in a landscape; number X (20 x 24 cm) (frame: 35 x 42 cm). The work comes from the estate of the van de Poll family and as a result came onto the market via an auction (see note on back of the frame, signed by relative of van de Poll).
Lady Frederika Louise Henriette van de Poll, was lady-in-waiting to queen Emma from 1880. During her employment, she was in charge of raising queen Wilhelmina from October 1890 to October 1896.
Queen Wilhelmina (1880-1962) has left more than a thousand of her own works, including paintings, drawings and pastels. However, since 1951 these are no longer publically displayed, at the request of the queen herself. Very rarely, however, a donated work (such as this drawing) comes on the market.
