Very early vinaigrette / perfume box
Silver has been gold-plated on the inside; the lid has been decorated with stylised fruits.
In excellent condition; age-related signs of wear and tear (see photos)
This perfume box was actually used by a woman, mainly in the Victorian period,
to use in the case of an oncoming fainting spell.
-Lion on the left looking towards the viewer (standard mark prior to 1821)
-Silversmith’s stamp ‘SP’ (Samuel Pemberton)
-Revenue stamp (George III 1786-1820)
-City stamp (anchor = Birmingham)
-Manufacturing date ‘S’ (1816)
