Item Description This is a beautifully crafted Japanese Hanakago (花籠 / flower basket), a traditional woven bamboo vessel designed for ikebana (flower arrangement) or tea ceremony (chanoyu) decoration. The basket presents a full, rounded tsubo-gata (jar/vase) form — a classic shape prized for its sculptural presence when displayed in the tokonoma (decorative alcove). The body is woven in a diagonal lattice (hishi-ami) pattern using finely split bamboo strips, creating an open, airy structure that lends the piece both lightness and visual rhythm. Contrasting wider bamboo slats are wrapped diagonally across the body in an expressive, asymmetrical manner — a bold decorative touch that breaks the regularity of the weave and recalls the aesthetic spirit of wabi.
