ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Nico Vernet (b. 1980) is a contemporary abstract artist based in Brussels whose work focuses on color, structure, and spatial balance. Working with layered surfaces and restrained compositions, he creates pieces that exist between minimalism and expressive abstraction.
His works are characterized by bold chromatic contrasts, textured finishes, and carefully constructed visual tension. By limiting the palette to two or three dominant tones, Vernet explores how subtle shifts in color and material can alter depth, rhythm, and atmosphere within a composition.
Influenced by modern architecture, contemporary interiors, and the relationship between light and surface, Vernet develops artworks that function as both paintings and sculptural objects. Each piece is built through multiple layers and manual interventions, allowing texture and process to remain visible.
The ongoing series Chromatic Divide investigates balance through reduction — simplifying visual language into essential forms, color fields, and material presence. The result is a body of work that feels calm, architectural, and visually powerful at the same time.
Nico Vernet’s works are held in private collections across Europe and are designed to integrate naturally into contemporary living spaces and curated interiors.
“My work is about tension through simplicity — reducing color and form until the composition feels both quiet and intense.” — N.V.
