Dit paar regels is geschreven door Lin Zexu, een politicus uit de late Qing-dynastie, toen hij gouverneur van Guangdong en Guangxi was, als hallafschrift in het gouverneurshuis. De zee kan honderden rivieren verteren vanwege haar uitgestrektheid en is daardoor groots; de hoge bergen staan rechtop omdat er geen wereldse verstrikkingen en verlangens zijn, waardoor ze zo steil zijn. (This couplet was written by Lin Zexu, a politician in the late Qing Dynasty, when he was the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi. The sea can accommodate hundreds of rivers because of its vastness; the mountains can be so tall because there are no intrigues and desires in the world.)
